Rating: ★★★★

South London synthy indie pop trio Beaty Heart’s second album ‘Till The Tomb’, is everything you could want. Its singles are (obviously) the stand out tracks of the album: ‘Flora’ is a synth gem, ‘Soft Like Clay’ deters into The 1975 self-titled territory with its shiny, hand clapping pop, and Jungle co-produced ‘Raw Gold’, is easily the best track on the whole album, with its perfect composition, romantic allure and weird magical zeal akin to masters of the indietronica game Metronomy.

At no point does 'Till The Tomb' stagnate. Collaborating with acclaimed producers who have worked with the likes of FKA Twigs boosts the band’s already eclectic tastes, shone through with their samples. The second half mellows out even further, ‘Green Grease’, ‘U Say’ and ‘Death Metal’ ooze with a conscious, unusual art rock a la Blur’s ‘Think Tank’.

‘Till The Tomb’ is chilled in nature. Soft but still free spirited, good natured and good fun – it's an album that’s not attempting to be anything more than what it actually is. In the words of vocalist Josh Mitchell “no sour grapes here, we’re a pretty good bunch”. Jasleen Dhindsa
