The 1975's new track 'Love It If We Made It' is here - listen now!

The second track from the 1975's forthcoming album 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships' has arrived - check out 'Love It If We Made It' now.

Debuted for the first time on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show, the track follows up on previous offering 'Give Yourself A Try' in previewing the new record, which - alongside 'Notes On A Conditional Form' - will form two parts of the band's 'Music For Cars' project-slash-umbrella-slash-wotsit.

'A Brief Inquiry...' should be released later this year, with 'Notes...' following in 2019. The band will hit the road to support both albums from January of next year.

The 1975 announced 'Love It If We Made It' by sending us a nice note in the post last week. You can check out what went down with that here.

They also announced that they're due to start work recording that second full-length shortly, and will be recording a new video this weekend.

Check out 'Love It If We Made It' below.

You can check out our first listen euphoria here in our latest banger review, and check out an interview Matty did with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 while debuting the track below. Top tip - if you check out the home page you'll notice 'Love It If We Made It' has already made its way into our constantly changing Top 5 tracks of the year so far.

Not bad eh?!

Now. Matty said something about not swearing earlier - which went something along the lines of:

"I don’t swear that much, and there are times that I want to remove the swearing that’s on my other songs right, I think it’s a bit stark, and I would remove that, but this is what it was necessary for. I like it, because we’re in quite a free place creatively.”

Which explains why there's a few cheeky words in 'Love It If We Made It' - which reminded us of the time he drove people to school.

That happened. What's he going to do this time, drive an Uber about over Christmas?

Matty's been growing as a songwriter, that's clear - he delved into it more with Zane earlier about the process and evolution he's gone through

"It’s just been trimming the fat, you know? Growing up and taking hold of your… whatever it is that we’ve been growing through. I think there’s been a promotion of the idea of sincerity you know, there’s a song on the record called ‘Sincerity Is Scary’ because I think that my whole schtick has always been adhering to the rules of post-modernism, self-reference, pop culture references…"

“What I used to do is I’d have a song that’d be a romantic song, right? And then there’d be a bit where you’d think ‘oh here comes the really sentimental bit’ and then I’d say something irreverent and then that’ll be endearing, do you know what I mean? I’ve done that my whole time, my whole life, it’s easier to be ironic than it is to be like a person, and be a bit soppy and stuff."

“All of these things have happened in my life. I’ve embraced sincerity, embraced those things that make you feel awkward, and it’s resulted in what the record is like. It’s like the goer we get, the less we play, the purer everything is. It’s simpler in its essence, but it’s more to the point. I love this song, it’s definitely an important point to the record, whether it’s the centre-piece or not.”

From the happy, to the happy to the.... graphic (we're looking at you @sjamboska) we think it's gone down well...

We've had some more details on 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships', with Matty explaining the theme of the record:

“There is a positivity in a resorting to authenticity, whether that be letting yourself be naive, letting yourself be simple, removing the idea of being verbose, all of these kind of things. I don’t know what the overarching message is, because it’s like, I hope it’s like all great records, you know? It’s about life. All the great records are about loads of different things, and hopefully we’ve done on numerous occasions with songs what could be perceived as the overarching narrative for a whole message.”

Life is usually a good topic, so we're game for this. Matty also chatted about being an artist, and creating in this day and age...

“It’s a weird time to be an artist man, in 2018. There’s things that come under such scrutiny and rightfully so amidst so many important movements, like the metoo movement. Then you have arguments about certain things being against freedom of speech. It’s a very volatile… cultural discourse is on a knife edge at all times. Anything you do needs to be double-checked, and everybody does do that because there’s a lot more consultancy in the world. It’s also a wonderful time to be alive. We’re more connected than we ever have been, but that means we’re hyper aware of everything that’s bad. There’s loads of things that are happening, and you have access to all of this information, you’re going to become more aware of all of the shit stuff that’s viral and can attack you. All of these things are ever-present in people’s… whether they’re conscious of it or not.”

Big discussion over the last week while we've sat here anticipating this very moment in time, has been Lil Peep. Matty can explain more about what he's saying in those lyrics:

"I’m saying Rest In Peace Lil Peep. It’s very on the nose, regardless of what you think of them as artists or people. With XXX and with Lil Peep, the thing that was happening in that movement, regardless of what you think of it, I felt like it was the closest thing that this generation has to a kind of punk. It definitely felt important, whatever it is. And those two people are dead now, just like that, they’re just dead. And I’m saying Rest In Peace Lil Peep. If you want to go and talk about big pharma and pharmaceutical companies and overprescription of drugs, of course that’s definitely played a part in it, but that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that at other points in the song, but in a lot of things I’m saying a lot of individual things, but the fact of the matter is that all of these things are nuclear, they’re radioactive. It’s probably the best place to put it, is in a song. You can let it finish and then go, okay I can’t react to a song, so I’ll just listen to it again and see if I get the same reaction, as opposed to an opinion on Twitter where you can go ‘hey fuck you’ or whatever. It’s not opinionated, it provides what is happening. There’s a couple of wry bits of humour with regards to wordplay. I’m always going to use humour as a way to try and put the message across.”

July 19, 2018

We've been looking over the lyrics. A LOT. Ever since we got this lovely little note in the post and Matty's gone and delved into that too. We're learning a lot guys, school is always in session

Speaking to Zane he said:

“I just like things that I believe in, and if you’re not willing to be bold, how can you have conviction? How can you make people… it’s not about being polemic or making people believe what I believe, it’s like if I’m going to make observations about the world, the world is a very scary, daunting place where there’s a lot of things happening, and I think you need to be brave. If you’re going to say things, you’re always going to… it’s not that you’re always going to upset people…

“It’s very objective though this song. I think that that’s one of the things I get to hide behind, because a lot of the stuff that you could be upset about in that song, I never said in the first place. Apart from ‘Poison Me Daddy’, and that’s definitely our best line.”

We might as well make the T-Shirts now right?

There's been a lot of talk about the idea of 'Modernity' and it failing us - so Matty delved into that too, saying:

"(On whether that's the context) It’s met hopefully with a genuine positivity. The chorus being, “I’d love it if we made it”, it’s maybe quite generous or hopeful in the same way that ‘Give Yourself A Try’ is, the sentiment is quite generous and hopeful.”

July 19, 2018

Now we've had some time to catch our breath, lets get into what Matty's talking about - because he had a good 'ol chinwag with Mr Lowe

On 'Love It If We Made It'

It’s definitely one of the first things that happened. It definitely has a lot of the ethos of the record. I think it’s quite inward, even though I try and speak about larger things than myself, I normally use myself as the frame to do so. Especially on ‘Love It If We Made It’, it’s quite outward and it’s me kind of looking out. It’s an interesting one because there’s not a lot of context, and a lot of the things that I say in that are direct quotes of people, or they’re headlines that I’ve read.”
