What's a, what's it counting down to, and why are The 1975 involved?

It looks like something is afoot in the 1975 Hype-o-matic Universe, Dear Reader.

What's a, what's it counting down to, and why are The 1975 involved?

The 1975 are doing nonsense.

Sit yourself down, Dear Reader, because it appears our favourite connoisseurs of 'being fucking extra about everything' are at it again, with a weird website full of weird easter eggs, a countdown and a metric tonne of pastel gradients.

It centres around - which features a running countdown. Said countdown finishes at 6pm on Wednesday. There's a bunch of other easter eggs to be found in the source code too, including a rather lengthy list of empowering statements, and a hidden link to r/IncelTears/ - described as "a part-mocking, part-watchdog subreddit for posting screenshots of hateful, misogynist, racist, violent, and often bizarre content created by "hateful incels"".

Then there's a video, promising some kind of weird retreat. How lovely. You can check that out below.

Not done yet? Not even slightly. There's also an associated Twitter account, which has posted one message. It reads: "Begin your own journey and find yourself in our stunning retreat. Mindshower digital detox puts you back in control. RECONNECT. RECHARGE. REJUVENATE."

That message has been RTed by the band's Adam Hann, and replied to by @snwflksmshr86, who you may remember from most recent album 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships'. Additionally, Matty Healy has posted a rather weird photo to Instagram, alongside the caption "MIND SHOWER".

We know we're due to get a new song from the band this month - the latest taster of the forthcoming album 'Notes on a Conditional Form'. Recently, the band's manager Jamie Oborne confirmed it'd be with us before they play London's O2 on Friday, 21st February. Whatever it is, it'll follow-up on the already aired 'Me & You Together Song', 'Frail State of Mind' and 'People', as well as the latest version of their 'The 1975' opener, featuring climate activist Greta Thunberg.

We also know that there'll be another new song in March, and another before the album drops on 24th April. All those new songs have been promised to appear on The 1975's UK tour, which kicks off tonight (15th February) in Nottingham - meaning we may have a better idea of what all this is about by the end of the day. Oooooh, etc.

Until further notice, we're deciding this probably means a new song from The 1975 on Wednesday evening. We'll add more to this story as we 'work it out'. Keep 'em peeled.

UPDATE: We emailed the 'press' link on And we got a reply.

So there we go. 6pm Wednesday. PREPARE THE BUZZ.

Give all this a try

BENEE: "2020 has been a bloody shitter"

A rare bright point in a pretty damn difficult year, BENEE's arrival has been a serotonin shot in the arm. With her debut album finally here, the future looks brighter already.

Sundara Karma: "We want to get a lot of new music out; no time like the present"

Sundara Karma have fast become one of the most interesting, inventive band of their class. With a new EP, some all-star collaboration and an outlook that constantly moves forward, the journey to album three is afoot.

The wait for shame's second album may seem to have lasted longer than it actually has. as they stand on the edge of a huge 2021, we get ready for a record that isn't supposed to be funny, but...
