Let's all have a dance to The Wave Pictures' new track 'Roosevelt Sykes'

The Wave Pictures have dropped a brand new track, and a video to go alongside it.

Titled ‘Roosevelt Sykes’, it’s taken from the trio’s second album of 2018, ‘Look Inside Your Heart’, which is set to arrive on 23rd November via Moshi Moshi.

Songwriter and guitarist Dave Tattersall describes the song as; “Lyrically, a tribute to Roosevelt Sykes, a giant of piano blues, to all firemen, to my friend Giles, to John Fahey and to my dreams and to all dreams. Musically, an African pop party in the vein of Zimbabwe’s The Four Brothers and The Bhundu Boys but done with absolutely no puritanical slavery at any kind of authenticity or even accuracy.”

So there we go.

Following up on full-length ’Brushes With Happiness’, which arrived earlier this year, ‘Look Inside Your Heart’ was recorded live to reel-to-reel tape without any digital computer gubbins involved. The record is “intended as a rallying cry in the war against the machines”.

“A machine could never have made music as joyful, spontaneous, happy, poetic, broken and rambunctious as this,” Dave muses. Writing your own reviews are we now, lads?

You can check out the Fraser Watson directed video for ‘Roosevelt Sykes’ - which features a lot of wandering about and a bit of dancing - below.
