A pop picker with a twist.
In Dork’s December/January issue (feat. The 1975, out now), we tackled a bunch of our favourite new bands - the ones whose gigs buzz with excitement, who inspire more devotion in their fans than Emmerdale does from our grans, and who will undoubtedly make 2017 special.
Hello Hannah. How are you, and what have we interrupted?
Hello there! I'm all good just driving home from rehearsal with my bro Luke... Got a cover for y'all coming soon!
How have you found 2016? What was the most exciting thing that happened for Pixx?
It's been good, we've played with so many great bands and we can't wait to tour more and more next year. When we got offered the tour with Daughter it was a really big deal for us, we were suddenly like... Oh shit we're playing some biiiiig venues...
How was your support tour with Glass Animals? Are you a fan of the band?
Oh it was so fun, they're such great dudes. We all loved boogying to their tunes. The new album is superbilicious.
What do you think has been the biggest music-related news story of 2016?
David Bowie passing away was very sad news. Also that Youth Lagoon and Magical Cloudz have split because we played with them both and think they're wonderful. For Luke, it's gotta be Bon Iver getting back together.
What song would you crown banger of the year?
‘Mad’ by Solange. Really sorted me out every time I've listened to it. A beautiful banger..
Tell us a “fun fact” about yourselves.
Sometimes I share my dinner with my cats (off the same plate).
Do you have any resolutions for 2017?
What can you tell us about your plans for next year? Anything exciting already on the calendar?
We are playing SXSW so looking forward to that. There'll be lots more Pixx stuff announced soon!
If you could wave a magic wand and have one thing of your choosing happen in 2017, what would it be?
I'd really love to get to see South America in 2017, I know I have at least one fan in Brazil…
Which album are you most looking forward to being released next year?
My own probably I'm pretty impatient and also don't know who else is releasing an album next year.
Who do you think will be the biggest new band of 2017?
I really wouldn't even be able to take a guess... The Magic Gang, maybe?
Give all this a try
On Ider’s debut album ‘Emotional Education’, Lily Somerville and Megan Markwick are dishing out some life lessons.
The band have just released their debut, 'Until The Tide Creeps In'.
Kim Petras is a banger machine. ‘Do Me’, ‘Heart To Break’, ‘Feeling of Falling’, ‘I Don’t Want It At All’ - it’s just pop hit after pop hit. "I feel real confidence now," she explains, "and that’s really amazing."
We've been 'oop North' with our mate Sam for our brand new issue.
