Getting to know... LUCIA

Glaswegian indie rocksters LUCIA have just dropped their new EP 'Cheap Talk’ (out today, Friday 2nd November). Produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Florence), it’s a statement of intent that firmly cements their place among 2019's ones to watch. Frontwoman Lucia Fairfull introduces her band.

Hey Lucia, how's Glasgow doing at the moment, are there some good new bands kicking about?
Always. I feel really lucky to be part of the Glasgow music scene and discover new artists all the time. After this years ‘Tenement Trail' I have gotten really into Lizzie Reid, Zoe Graham, and Lazy Angel.

You guys have had a crazy busy year, how do you deal with being away from home so much?
Apart from returning to a pile of ever growing washing and mouldy fridge food, it's always fun to be on tour.

Tell us about your new EP, ‘Cheap Talk' - how did it come together, and what's it about?
The writing process of this EP was really spread out; it's inspired by lots of different things but mainly teenage heartbreak and angst. I have been writing a lot about my past and the things I experienced as a teenager, in comparison to what life is like now.

Do you have lots of new material in your locker at the moment?

What's been the highlight of your time as a musician so far?
I don't think I could name one thing in specific. The whole journey of developing to get to where we are now, and the thought that it will keep getting better is a great feeling.

What will you be up to in 2019?
Taking over.

What do you do for fun?
While we're on tour, we like to visit a Wetherspoon's in each city.

Who do you think is the most exciting band or musician around right now?
Young Fathers.

What's top of your Christmas list this year?
A good smelly candle, preferably cinnamon.

Hype List 2021: Olivia Dean

Hype List 2021: Olivia Dean

Walthamstow's Olivia comfort in music more so than Dean wears her heart on her sleeve; every tune an introspective masterclass in storytelling.

BENEE: "2020 has been a bloody shitter"

A rare bright point in a pretty damn difficult year, BENEE's arrival has been a serotonin shot in the arm. With her debut album finally here, the future looks brighter already.

The wait for shame's second album may seem to have lasted longer than it actually has. as they stand on the edge of a huge 2021, we get ready for a record that isn't supposed to be funny, but...
