With the vinyl re-release of ‘Fever To Tell’ around the corner, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have treated us to a quick 2003 throwback. ‘Shake It’ didn’t make the cut for their debut LP and for a decade and a half we’ve only ever heard it live, until now.

The track has a recorded-in-our-bedroom vibe, an unfinished quality that captures the tenacity of the band’s early years.

On its own, this compact and feisty track offers little, a tame and directionless companion to the brash album it preludes. But as a context setter for the raw energy of ‘Fever To Tell’, this single brings new life to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ formative debut. Eleanor Langford
