Warpaint aren’t always the most direct of bands. They’re not scared of challenging, wigging out, going in their own direction. Even when they’ve been at their poppiest, it’s been on their own terms.

‘New Song’, their… erm… new song, could be a redefining of terms. It’s Warpaint - definitively so - but it’s more immediate than ever before.

Chirping, catchy, begging for repeat plays, there’s no surrendering of long held values. In finding that hook, they’ve not dumbed down massively. Rather they’ve scored a perfect hit on the nose, delivered a group capable of being both loved and admired.

‘Heads Up’ just became all the more exciting. Stephen Ackroyd
