Old Skool-Banger

Metronomy are at their best when the chain is off. Granted, the poppers are unlikely to be out, but when aiming for the open planes of upbeat bangers, Joe Mount knows how to hit the mark.

That’s exactly the MO of new album ‘Summer 08’. Lead track ‘Old Skool’ isn’t obvious, brash or in any way crass - it doesn’t even have the most obvious of choruses - instead delving into a groove and ploughing it deep.

Add in a bit of Mix Master Mike for good measure, and we’re left with something as weird and wonderful as it’s accompanying video. Whatever happened in the summer of ’08, it sounds like it was pretty damn fun.
