Circa Waves - Fire That Burns

If you don’t jump on now, you’re going to be left behind.

When Circa Waves returned at the end of last year with ‘Wake Up’, they kicked in the mirror on everything we may have expected them to do when following up the summer days success of debut album ‘Young Chasers’. Instead, they slammed themselves straight into pole position, forcing us to spit out our cereal and take notice of a band aiming squarely at the top. Now with ‘Fire That Burns’, they’ve unravelled something deeper, a primal purpose that the ‘top’ is well and truly theirs - and there’s no sign that they’re going to slow down for anyone.

Flicking between sing-along chants, slick heartfelt pulls and a foot-on-the-pedal intensity, ‘Fire That Burns’ is the clearest sign as to how Circa Waves have taken ‘Young Chasers’ into 2017. Tougher, with the slant of an eyebrow and the swagger of a giant - this is Circa Waves laying down that they have exactly what it takes to be that band who light up a generation and they don’t care if we're not ready - because it’s happening now.

To say Circa Waves have the sort of bangers which decimate festival fields would be an understatement. ‘Fire That Burns’ is stadium-sized in every way and is fizzling with the freedom that comes from knowing just how heavyweight they’re about to become. It’s not time to serenade a nation, but to grab it by both hands and shake it into the real world. Circa Waves are heading into something massive, and if you don’t jump on now, you’re going to be left behind. Jamie Muir

The 1975: Modern life is rubbish?

The 1975 have just released their third album, ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’. A staggering work of shifting expectations, it’s quite probably their masterpiece. To find out more, Dork headed round to frontman Matty Healy’s house to quiz him on what life’s currently like in the most exciting band on the planet.

It also, not entirely coincidentally, breaks from the usual summer festival sausagefest template.
