Animal House - Tobacco
Published: 7:30 am, August 07, 2018Words: Jake Hawkes.

Animal House is a 1978 American comedy film most famous for popularising toga parties and food fights. It’s also the name of a part Aussie, part Brit band based in Brighton. We’re a music magazine, so we’re writing about the second of the two, surprisingly.

‘Tobacco’ is the latest single from their ‘Premium Mediocre’ project, the story of five guys who have taken a long, hard look in the mirror and decided they’re probably about average, if they’re being honest.

That’s their angle anyway, but we think they’re probably a notch or two above mediocre and this track is our killer piece of evidence. Early Kings of Leon with a bit of extra toe-tapping, ‘Tobacco’ is the kind of song you can’t help but dance to, with an ear worm of a guitar line to go along with it.

The song itself is about exactly what it says on the tin: ‘Saturday night, sucking them down’ they sing, talking of wheezing away but carrying on regardless. The subject matter might not be the most glamorous, but you’ll be singing along all the same, and probably dancing badly whilst spilling your pint in the process.

Tones And I: Top of the Pops

Tones And I is a name that has taken over radio airwaves since unexpected smash ‘Dance Monkey’ flew to the Number 1 spot around the world, and stuck there for bloody ages. However quick it felt for, well, everyone - for Aussie popster Toni Watson her journey from the busking unknown was really somethin’ else.
